Armistice Day on the 11th and Remembrance Sunday, the second Sunday of November, carry the two minutes' silence at eleven in the morning. Poppies appear from the end of October, the national service is held at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, and in years where the 11th falls on a Sunday the two occasions land on the same day.
November sits in the middle of the fourth calendar quarter and marks the eighth month of the tax year, with roughly two months to go until the self-assessment deadline. It is the point where anyone filing their own return starts gathering paperwork rather than thinking about it in the abstract.
November 2026 runs to 30 days, eleven months into a year of 365. One month remains, and it carries the last posting dates, the school term end, the solstice and both of the Christmas bank holidays inside it.
