How to use the online alarm clock

Handing the kitchen opening to the next member of staff at 1:10 am means leaving them a clear, reliable cue rather than a hurried verbal reminder. Set the alarm for the agreed preparation time, confirm the volume together, and note that there are 50 minutes until 2:00 am if the handover includes jobs to finish first.

During the handover, the alarm page may sit behind a rota, recipe sheet or staff message in another tab; it should continue counting down while that tab remains open. Check that the sound is audible before moving to other work, and avoid muting the browser. If the alarm page is closed or the computer goes to sleep, the kitchen cue will not sound, so the incoming colleague needs another alarm for any unattended interval.

Once the early-breakfast preparation is assigned, keep the display dim enough for the night setting without making the remaining time hard to read. A warmer screen tone and a glance from slightly farther away can reduce harsh contrast under low kitchen lighting. Place the screen where its glow does not reflect from stainless-steel surfaces, then rely on the audible signal instead of repeatedly checking the clock.

Common questions

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 1:10 am?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.

Will it still be right when the clocks change?

Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
