How to use the online alarm clock

Break away from what you are doing when the 1:36 pm alarm sounds, so you have time to collect your letter from the GP reception. It is easy to stay absorbed in a midday task and look up near 2:00 pm, when the reception desk may be harder to reach before its stated collection time.

Because this reminder has a specific job, test its sound now rather than discovering a problem when you need to leave. Set the alarm briefly, check that the volume is clearly audible from where you are working, then restore it to 1:36 pm. Keep the page active and your phone awake; otherwise the alarm may stay silent and your GP reception collection could be missed.

Leaving a bright room for a midday walk can make a phone screen difficult to read, especially in direct daylight. Before returning to your task, raise the screen brightness enough to see the alarm controls and place the phone where sunlight will not wash them out. If the room is dim, switch on a nearby lamp so the screen remains visible when 1:36 pm arrives.

Common questions

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 1:36 pm?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.

Will it still be right when the clocks change?

Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
