How to use the online alarm clock
As you finish getting ready and leave to open the Royal Mail sorting centre, set the alarm for 1:52 am before putting your phone away. That gives you a clear marker for the final part of the journey or the last checks before the doors open. With 2:00 am close behind, there is little room for an unnoticed delay.
During the trip, another app may push the alarm page into the background. The timer can continue while you check a route or message, but browsers may restrict activity that is no longer visible, so return to this page and leave it open when you have finished. Keep the sound turned up and avoid silent mode. If the browser is closed or the phone falls asleep, no alarm will sound to help you reach the Royal Mail sorting centre on time.
Before leaving a brightly lit room for the dark streets around 1:52 am, lower the indoor lighting for the last few minutes and check that the route from the car park is illuminated. Keep a small torch within reach rather than searching for it after arrival. A dim screen setting can also prevent glare while still leaving the alarm controls easy to read.
Common questions
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 1:52 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
