How to use the online alarm clock

Break away from what you are doing when the 10:04 pm alarm sounds, so you can gather your papers and leave for the parish council meeting. At this late stage of the evening, it is easy to keep working and miss the moment to set off. The alert gives you time to switch tasks deliberately rather than noticing the clock only when 11:00 pm arrives.

Your parish council meeting alert needs to be audible where you are actually working. Check whether music or a previous call has quietly routed sound to headphones, then test the alarm at a comfortable volume before carrying on. Do not rely on it as the only meeting reminder: if this page stops running or the phone falls asleep, the alert may not sound, leaving you unaware that it is time to go.

Before setting off for an evening parish council meeting, keep food simple enough that it will not delay your departure. A small snack or cup of tea may fit beside the task you are finishing, but leave a full meal until afterwards if preparation would compete with the alarm. Put water by your papers now, especially if the village hall kitchen is likely to be closed by the time you arrive.

Common questions

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 10:04 pm?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.

Will it still be right when the clocks change?

Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
