How to use the online alarm clock

Break away from whatever you are doing at 12:20 am so you can collect the crew after a late West End performance. Set the alarm as the point when you stop, gather your keys and check the pickup location, rather than as a reminder you can postpone. If the curtain call or stage-door wait runs long, the 40 minutes before 1:00 am still leave some room to adjust your route.

While you finish the task already in front of you, leave the alarm page running behind your other browser work and keep its sound permitted. Moving the tab into the background should not cancel the set time, so you can check directions or messages without watching the clock. A shut browser or sleeping computer means no alarm for the crew collection, however, so use a separate phone alarm as backup if you might close everything or step away.

With the West End pickup still ahead, choose something light and easy to finish before leaving, such as toast, fruit or a small bowl of cereal. Keep water nearby, and save a large meal or another strong coffee until after the drive if either would make the late-night journey feel uncomfortable. Pack a drink before 12:20 am so the alarm sends you straight towards the door.

Common questions

Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?

No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 12:20 am?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
