How to use the online alarm clock
While preparing to close the bar after the last drinks have been served, you can set the alarm for 12:47 am before the final jobs begin. That gives the signal a clear purpose: stop what you are doing, check the room and move into the closing routine. With 1:00 am approaching, the alert separates ordinary tidying from the tasks that must be finished before you leave.
Once the alarm is running, you may switch back to a rota, checklist or music while its browser tab sits in the background. It should continue counting there, although browser power-saving settings can sometimes restrict inactive pages, so a quick test beforehand helps confirm that the sound is audible. If you close the tab or let the device go to sleep, no alarm will sound, which could leave the bar closing later than planned.
After midnight, a bright screen can feel harsh against dim bar lighting and make small controls awkward to read. Lowering the display brightness before 12:47 am, while keeping enough contrast to see the alarm status, makes the screen less distracting during the final clear-up. Placing the device where the display is visible without shining directly towards your face also lets you check that the alarm remains active at a glance.
Common questions
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 12:47 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
