How to use the online alarm clock
As your colleague takes over, you can leave the handover behind and be present for the afternoon council meeting at 2:13 pm. That timing gives you a clear boundary between the duty you have passed on and the discussion ahead. If the meeting runs towards 3:00 pm, the alarm also marks exactly when your attendance was meant to begin, without relying on a hurried glance at the clock.
A council chamber, shared office or busy corridor can easily drown out a quiet browser alert. Set the volume high enough to rise above conversation and test the sound before you depend on it, while keeping the page running. If the browser stops operating or the screen sleeps, the council meeting reminder may not sound, leaving you unaware that the changeover has finished and the session has started.
Because 2:13 pm falls just after lunch, any sleep planned around the handover needs a firm finishing point. A short rest beforehand may still fit, but allow a few minutes after the alarm to wake fully, check your papers and reach the room without rushing. Sleeping again afterwards is less predictable: a meeting approaching 3:00 pm can overrun, so treat any remaining rest as optional rather than part of a fixed afternoon schedule.
Common questions
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 2:13 pm?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
