How to use the online alarm clock
As you finish getting ready and head out for your NHS night shift, set the alarm for 3:08 am so departure does not drift while you check your pass, keys and lunch. There are 52 minutes before 4:00 am, enough time to reach the ward or meet your lift without treating the round hour as your actual deadline.
Your NHS departure can be missed if the alarm sound has quietly switched to connected headphones left in a coat pocket or another room. Check the audio destination, raise the volume and run a brief test before depending on the alert. Keep a separate phone alarm for the shift as well: this browser alarm cannot wake a sleeping handset and will stay silent after its page is closed.
Leaving for work at this point in the night can disturb people who are still asleep, so place everything needed near the door before 3:08 am. Use vibration alongside a moderate alarm volume, avoid letting it repeat, and silence it as soon as you are up. Close doors gently and keep hallway lights low, particularly if someone sleeps near the stairs or front entrance.
Common questions
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 3:08 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
Can I change the sound?
Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
