How to use the online alarm clock
Watching the clock at 4:05 am, you are waiting for the appointed moment to finish your shift at the 24-hour supermarket. An alarm leaves you free to complete the final checks without repeatedly looking at the time. There are 55 minutes until 5:00 am, enough to work through the remaining routine at a steady pace.
Your supermarket shift can still end without an audible alert if the phone or computer is set to silent, even though the alarm appears on screen. The browser’s sound permission and the volume level therefore need checking before attention returns to work. The alarm also cannot signal the end of the supermarket shift if its browser page has been closed or the phone or computer has gone to sleep. Keeping the page open and the machine awake allows the alert to run at 4:05 am.
During the last part of an overnight supermarket shift, bright stockroom lighting can make the darker journey outside feel abrupt. Before 5:00 am arrives, lowering a nearby screen’s brightness and having a coat or bag ready reduces the need to search under harsh ceiling lights. For the trip home through the British night, a small torch or phone light placed within reach is more practical than switching on every light just before leaving.
Common questions
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 4:05 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
