How to use the online alarm clock
Finish the last tent check after the Lake District storm, then leave knowing the 4:09 am alarm is ready for the next wake-up. The early start leaves 51 minutes before 5:00 am, enough to stow a torch, hang up wet waterproofs and put muddy boots where they will not be forgotten.
Because the tent inspection ends away from the screen, the alarm needs an active browser until it sounds. If the browser is closed or the phone or laptop falls asleep, the alarm cannot alert you for the tents. Keeping the page open, the sound turned up and the charger connected makes the arrangement clear before walking away; a separate alarm clock is sensible if the computer cannot remain awake.
After a stormy night outdoors, the hours following 4:09 am can fill quickly with drying kit, checking pegs and preparing breakfast. Leave a definite buffer before the next commitment later that day rather than assigning every minute to camp jobs. Packing essentials together now also protects that margin if wet ground or poor light makes departure slower than expected.
Common questions
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
Can I change the sound?
Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
