How to use the online alarm clock

Before handing the boiler visit over to someone else, set the alarm for 4:15 pm so they know exactly when to meet the gas engineer. That leaves a clear point for the changeover rather than relying on a message being noticed later. If the inspection window stretches towards 5:00 pm, the alarm also marks when the person taking over should be ready by the door.

While responsibility for the visit is changing hands, keep this alarm page easy to find even if you move to another browser page. A background page will commonly keep running, but browser power-saving controls can sometimes restrict it. The boiler inspection reminder will not sound once its page has been closed or the phone or computer is asleep, which could leave the person covering for you unaware that 4:15 pm has arrived. Keep the browser active and the sound audible until the alert has fired.

Because 4:15 pm falls in the afternoon, tell everyone at home who is expected to answer the door and which entrance the engineer will use. Someone working upstairs, collecting children or wearing headphones may otherwise respond at the same time and create confusion. A short note near the door can identify the person taking over, while the others continue with their afternoon without waiting unnecessarily.

Common questions

Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?

No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 4:15 pm?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
