How to use the online alarm clock

While getting ready to collect your reserved books from the library, set the alarm for 5:28 pm before you become absorbed in something else. That gives you a clear cue to find your library card, check the branch’s closing time and leave with enough room for the journey. If another task is due at 6:00 pm, the alarm also marks a useful boundary between preparing for the collection and moving on with the evening.

Your headphones may still be connected even after you have taken them off, quietly sending the alarm sound somewhere you will not hear it. Before relying on 5:28 pm as the signal to head for the library, play a brief sound and confirm that it comes from the phone or computer speaker you expect. Set the volume high enough for the room without making it jarring. The alarm cannot remind you about the library if the browser has stopped running or the computer has gone to sleep, so use a separate phone alarm when missing the collection would disrupt your plans.

Collecting books late in the afternoon can sit awkwardly between work, travel and evening commitments. Keep part of the 32 minutes before 6:00 pm unassigned rather than treating all of it as available library time. A delayed bus, a queue at the desk or a few minutes spent checking the books can then fit without pushing the next task late.

Common questions

Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?

No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 5:28 pm?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
