Going to bed for a 7:06 am alarm

  • Asleep by 9:51 pm — 6 full sleep cycles, about 9 hours
  • Asleep by 11:21 pm — 5 full sleep cycles, about 7 hours
  • Asleep by 12:51 am — 4 full sleep cycles, about 6 hours

A sleep cycle runs about 90 minutes, and most people take around 15 minutes to drop off. Waking at the end of a cycle feels easier than waking in the middle of one.

How to use the online alarm clock

Waking at 7:06 am means the filming equipment is still waiting to be loaded while you shake off sleep and get your bearings. There is enough time before 8:00 am to dress, check the cases against the kit list and move everything carefully, without treating the next hour as empty time.

The alarm needs to be audible beyond the ordinary sounds of this particular start: running water, a kettle, cupboard doors or cases being shifted towards the car. The selected volume should be tested from wherever those noises will happen, because a signal that seems clear beside the phone may disappear across the room. If the browser page is closed or the phone goes to sleep, however, no alarm will sound, so the equipment could remain unloaded. Keeping the page active and the phone awake avoids relying on a signal that cannot play.

Before lifting cases and heading out in the early morning, a small, familiar breakfast can fit more comfortably into the schedule than a full cooked meal. Water or tea can be prepared while checking batteries and memory cards, with anything slower left until after the sunrise location is reached. Keeping a drink in a sealed bottle also prevents an open mug becoming another thing to manage beside delicate kit.

Common questions

Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?

No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 7:06 am?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
