How to use the online alarm clock
You are only just waking up, so the gate to the vegetable plot can wait until the 7:44 am alarm has properly brought you round. That leaves a calm window before 8:00 am to get dressed, find the gate key and pull on suitable shoes, without pretending the morning has already begun.
While you are getting ready, keep this alarm page in the foreground if you can. A browser may reduce or pause activity when its page is sent to the background, particularly on a phone using battery-saving settings. Check the sound level first and avoid relying on this alarm alone if a missed alert would leave the gate shut longer than intended. It also will not sound after the browser is closed or the phone goes to sleep, so use the phone’s built-in alarm as a backup when that consequence matters.
Before heading out to open the gate, look through the window and take a light layer or gardening gloves if the ground appears damp. Early British mornings can leave moisture on the latch, grass and tools even when rain has stopped. The cooler outdoor air at 7:44 am may feel quite different from the bedroom, so having everything beside the door avoids another trip indoors once the plot is open.
Common questions
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 7:44 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
Can I change the sound?
Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
