How to use the online alarm clock
As you finish opening the gate to reach the vegetable beds, set the alarm for 7:49 am before walking away. It gives you a clear stopping point for checking the latch, putting down any tools and leaving the entrance ready for the morning. You will then have eleven minutes before 8:00 am, enough time to head indoors without repeatedly checking the clock.
While you move away from the plot, the alarm page can remain behind another browser page and continue counting towards 7:49 am. Keep the browser running, leave the sound audible and avoid battery-saving settings that suspend background activity. If the page is closed, or the phone or laptop falls asleep, the gate reminder will not sound. A quick glance after switching pages confirms that the countdown is still moving before you put the screen aside.
After handling the gate and anything muddy around the beds, wash your hands before having breakfast. If you need something before 7:49 am, a glass of water is less awkward than carrying toast or a hot mug while working a latch. Leave a fuller breakfast or tea until you are back inside, where the food stays clean and you are not trying to balance it beside gardening tools.
Common questions
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 7:49 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
Can I change the sound?
Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
