How to use the online alarm clock
Pause halfway through laying out the finish tokens for Saturday’s parkrun when the 7:55 am alarm sounds. That interruption gives you a clear cue to stop arranging the funnel and check that the volunteers and equipment are ready before 8:00 am, without repeatedly looking at the clock while your hands are full.
While you continue setting out the tokens, check where your browser’s audio is being sent. Headphones left connected in a pocket or kit bag can receive the alarm unnoticed, so set a sensible volume and test the sound before moving away. Keep the browser page open and the phone or laptop awake: otherwise the alarm may not sound, leaving the finish tokens unfinished when everyone begins arriving.
As the parkrun setup moves towards 8:00 am, early daylight may still be flat or patchy around trees and buildings. Before returning to the funnel, position the tokens where the available light makes their sequence easy to read, and have a torch ready if the area remains dim. Avoid placing your screen where glare could hide the alarm controls when you need to silence them quickly.
Common questions
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 7:55 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
