How to use the online alarm clock
You have only just woken, and sending your child to breakfast club before lessons is still a list in your head rather than a morning already under way. An alarm for 8:07 am can mark the moment to get up, check their bag and start breakfast without treating every task as equally urgent. There are 53 minutes until 9:00 am, enough for a steady routine if shoes, coat and school things are gathered early.
Because the club run involves moving between rooms, this alarm may spend much of its wait on a browser page hidden behind messages, weather or the school timetable. A page in the background will usually continue counting, so you can use another page and return to check the remaining time. Keep the browser running and the computer awake, however; otherwise your child’s club departure will have no alarm sound. Turn the volume up before leaving the screen and make sure the browser is allowed to play audio.
While the household is still waking in the early morning, a bright screen can feel unnecessarily harsh against a dim room. Set 8:07 am, then lower the display brightness and place the screen where its glow is not directly in your eyes. Using a lamp or opening the curtains gradually makes it easier to read the alarm controls without staring at a small, brilliant display. Once the child’s things are ready, rely on the sound rather than repeatedly checking the countdown.
Common questions
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
Can I change the sound?
Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
