This tool counts forward to the next birthday: how many days remain, which weekday it falls on, and how old the person will be when it arrives. If today is the birthday, the count reads zero rather than rolling on to next year, which is the behaviour most people expect and a common source of off-by-one complaints in tools that do it the other way.
The weekday is the part worth looking at when planning anything. A birthday advances by one weekday each year and by two across a leap year, so a date that lands on a Saturday returns to Saturday after five or six years rather than seven. Anyone hoping to hold a party on the day itself, rather than on the nearest weekend, can see several years ahead here.
Bank holidays are worth checking against too. A birthday close to Christmas, to Easter or to one of the Monday holidays in May and August will regularly sit inside a period when venues, deliveries and half the guest list are already committed elsewhere — and in Scotland the early January and early August dates differ from the rest of the UK, so a Glasgow guest list and a Cardiff one do not have the same days free.
