Going to bed for a 10:03 am alarm

  • Asleep by 12:48 am — 6 full sleep cycles, about 9 hours
  • Asleep by 2:18 am — 5 full sleep cycles, about 7 hours
  • Asleep by 3:48 am — 4 full sleep cycles, about 6 hours

A sleep cycle runs about 90 minutes, and most people take around 15 minutes to drop off. Waking at the end of a cycle feels easier than waking in the middle of one.

How to use the online alarm clock

As you finish up and leave the workshop in its railway arch, set the alarm for 10:03 am so the shutters, keys and last checks do not keep you there longer than planned. It gives you a clear stopping point before the morning slips towards 11:00 am, whether you are catching a train home or simply locking the yard gate behind you.

With machinery quiet, the alarm may seem obvious on screen while its sound is actually being sent to connected headphones. Check the audio output before putting them down, and leave the volume high enough to hear from the far end of the arch. Once the laptop is asleep or the browser has been quit, the workshop alarm cannot sound, so use a separate alarm if you will already be outside or travelling.

Leaving the arch at 10:03 am may still leave part of the morning available for sleep, especially after an overnight repair or an unusually early start. Keep the journey home simple, avoid turning the remaining errands into a second shift, and decide beforehand when you need to be awake again. That gives the sleep after this moment a defined place in the day instead of letting workshop jobs steadily consume it.

Common questions

Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?

No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 10:03 am?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
