How to use the online alarm clock
Pause what you are doing when the 11:00 am alarm sounds, so you can break away and take your child to primary school without letting the morning task absorb another few minutes. Having the cue at the round hour gives you a clear stopping point for putting work, washing-up or paperwork aside and gathering the school bag, coat and keys.
While getting ready for the school run, check where the alarm sound will play. Headphones left connected can quietly take the alert away from the room, even when they are sitting on a desk or in a pocket. Disconnect them or test the alarm at a low volume first, then leave the browser running and the computer awake. If the browser is no longer running or the computer goes to sleep, the alarm may not sound and your child could be late for school.
Before the household reaches this point in the morning, tell anyone at home that an alarm is set for 11:00 am and choose a volume that can reach you without startling them. Put shoes and bags near the door earlier, especially if somebody is working, resting or on a call nearby. You can then stop promptly and leave with less noise and fewer last-minute questions.
Common questions
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 11:00 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
Can I change the sound?
Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
