How to use the online alarm clock

Eleven in the morning is the hour Britain stops. On 11 November, and again on Remembrance Sunday, a two-minute silence is kept at eleven o'clock, marking the hour the guns fell quiet in 1918. Shops, stations and offices observe it, and a good many people set an alarm a minute or two beforehand so that it does not arrive unnoticed in the middle of a phone call.

The rest of the year it is a more domestic hour. Elevenses is a real institution rather than a quaint one, hotel checkout is very commonly eleven o'clock, and pubs that open for lunch tend to unlock around now.

In offices it is the last clear stretch before lunch pulls the day apart, which is why so many meetings are scheduled here and why a reminder is useful when you are deep in something else. Each minute of the hour is a separate page below, needing nothing more than an open tab to run.
