How to use the online alarm clock
Finish what you are doing and head out to collect your teenager from Army Cadets at 11:00 pm. Setting the alarm for that exact time gives you a clear leaving point, so packing away, finding your keys and putting on a coat do not quietly push the pickup later.
For this Cadets pickup, check where the alarm sound will play before relying on it. A phone or laptop may still be connected to headphones left in a bag or on a desk, making the alert easy to miss even when the volume looks high. Disconnect them or place them where the sound will be obvious. The alarm also cannot prompt your Cadets departure if the browser has been closed or the computer has gone to sleep, so keep the page running and the machine awake until 11:00 pm.
A late-evening departure can disturb other people in the house just as they are settling down. Put keys, shoes and your coat near the door earlier, and use a quiet alert before the main alarm if you need time to get ready. At 11:00 pm, close doors gently and avoid searching through cupboards or calling upstairs; leaving with everything prepared keeps the household disruption brief.
Common questions
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 11:00 pm?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
