How to use the online alarm clock

While you watch the clock and wait to finish a shift in a 24-hour supermarket, a 2:23 am alarm marks the agreed moment without making you check every few minutes. It also leaves a clear stretch before 3:00 am, which may be useful for closing a till, returning stray baskets or completing the final handover notes.

During the last part of the supermarket shift, the alarm needs a phone or computer that will remain awake until 2:23 am. The browser alarm cannot sound after its page has been closed or the equipment has gone to sleep, so the supermarket handover could be delayed if the screen locks too early. A charger nearby and sleep settings adjusted for the remaining wait make the alert less likely to be missed.

Under bright overnight supermarket lighting, repeatedly checking a glowing screen can feel especially harsh on the eyes. Once the alarm is prepared, placing the phone face down but within hearing distance reduces the temptation to keep looking at it. Lower screen brightness before the final tasks, and use the shop clock for occasional checks if one is visible; the alarm can then provide the precise 2:23 am cue.

Common questions

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 2:23 am?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.

Will it still be right when the clocks change?

Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
