How to use the online alarm clock
Two in the morning is the hour Britain gets twice. On the last Sunday in October the clocks go back at 2 am, so the hour from one o'clock is repeated, once on British Summer Time and once on Greenwich Mean Time. Devices handle it by their own rules, and an alarm set inside that window may fire on the first pass, the second, or in the confusion between them, which is one night a year when a browser alarm should not be trusted.
Every other night of the year, two o'clock is the quiet middle of the night shift. Hospital wards are between observations, bakers are already at work on the morning's bread, and the supermarket delivery lorries are unloading into shops that will not open for another six hours.
The minute pages under this hour also get used for medication timed at strict intervals, where the schedule pays no attention to whether anyone would rather be asleep. For anything of that kind, a dedicated alarm on the phone itself is the safer instrument, because a browser tab left open on a sleeping laptop will make no sound at all.
