How to use the online alarm clock

You have just woken at 3:44 pm and still need to hand the keys to the letting agent, so use the alarm as the point when you stop gathering yourself and start getting ready. Setting it for 4:00 pm leaves a clear boundary for washing your face, finding the keys and checking where the handover will happen without letting the afternoon drift.

Because your phone or computer may be on silent, check the sound level and play a brief test tone before relying on the alarm. Browser audio can behave differently from calls and notifications, so a muted system may give you only a visual alert. If the browser alarm is no longer running or the computer has gone to sleep, no sound will prompt you to take the keys to the agent. Keep the alarm active and use a separate phone alarm if missing the handover would cause a problem.

A late-afternoon keys handover can sit awkwardly between the working day and evening plans. Leave a small buffer after 4:00 pm for the agent to arrive, inspect the keys or ask a quick question, rather than placing your next commitment immediately afterwards. Put anything needed later—travel card, coat or shopping list—beside the door now, so the handover does not consume the time reserved for the rest of your day.

Common questions

Will it still be right when the clocks change?

Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.

Can I use this on a phone?

It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.

Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?

No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 3:44 pm?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
