How to use the online alarm clock
You have just woken at 6:07 am, with the school-bus routine still to begin: getting your child dressed, finding their bag and checking that everything needed for the day is ready. Setting the alarm now gives the morning a clear boundary. There are 53 minutes until 7:00 am, enough for the essential jobs without treating every minute as a crisis.
While you move between bedrooms and the kitchen, this alarm page may slip behind another page on your browser. It can usually continue counting there, so checking a message or the school timetable need not cancel the timer. Keep the browser running and allow sound notifications if prompted. Do not rely on it as the sole safeguard for the school bus, however: closing the page or letting the phone go to sleep can mean no alarm sounds. A separate phone alarm is a sensible backup when departure cannot wait.
Before the school-bus preparations gather pace, put out a simple drink and something quick to eat, such as toast, cereal or fruit. At this early hour, leave anything needing lengthy cooking until the uniform, shoes and bag are sorted. Keeping water nearby also avoids another trip to the kitchen just as 7:00 am approaches.
Common questions
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 6:07 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
