How to use the online alarm clock
Six in the morning is the hour the country wakes up on the radio. The Today programme starts on the hour, breakfast television is already running, and in millions of households the alarm at six exists to get one person out of the door before anyone else stirs.
In winter it is doing all the work, because there is no daylight to help. In late December the sun does not rise over London until well after eight, and in Glasgow it is later still, so for months at a time a six o'clock start happens entirely in the dark and the clock is the only thing telling you it is morning. That is the single biggest difference between a British winter alarm and a summer one.
