Results days land in the middle of August. A-level and equivalent results come out in the third week in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with GCSE results the week after; Scottish results arrive at the beginning of the month, since the school year there runs ahead. University clearing opens on the same morning and settles a great many futures within a day.
Every part of the United Kingdom loses one of the 31 days of August 2028 to a bank holiday, but not the same one: Scotland takes its Monday at the start of the month and everyone else at the end. Any deadline set across the whole country in August has to account for both.
The move from August into September brings the country back to work all at once. August 2028 hands over the last of the festivals, the harvest and the results days to a month that resets every timetable in the calendar within its first week.
