Easter falls within April in most years, bringing Good Friday and Easter Monday with it. Both are bank holidays in England, Wales and Northern Ireland; in Scotland, Good Friday is a bank holiday but Easter Monday is not statutory, though a good many employers grant it anyway. Because the date is set by the moon rather than the calendar, it can land anywhere from late March to the end of April.
April 2029 is the most leave-heavy month of the British spring. Families take the Easter fortnight, workers bridge the days between Good Friday and Easter Monday with a couple of days of annual leave to turn it into ten days off in a row, and the roads and airports fill accordingly for the first time since the New Year.
The move from April into May brings the bluebell woods to their peak and the examination season into view for secondary schools. April 2029 hands over a month defined by a moveable feast to one whose holidays are fixed to particular Mondays and never move at all.
