Edinburgh spends the whole of August as the busiest arts city in the world, with the Fringe, the International Festival, the Book Festival and the Tattoo running at once. At the other end of the month, the Notting Hill Carnival takes over west London across the late summer bank holiday weekend.
Every part of the United Kingdom loses one of the 31 days of August 2029 to a bank holiday, but not the same one: Scotland takes its Monday at the start of the month and everyone else at the end. Any deadline set across the whole country in August has to account for both.
August 2029 closes with the late summer bank holiday and, in England and Wales, the last few days of the school holidays. September follows with the new school year, the equinox, and the beginning of the long unbroken run to Christmas.
