How to use the online alarm clock
Waking up with a GP appointment ahead means getting your bearings before the morning disappears. Set the alarm for 10:28 am, then check the appointment time, the surgery address and how long the journey usually takes. If you need to be ready by 11:00 am, the alarm can mark the point when washing, dressing and gathering your keys should be finished.
Your GP appointment could be missed if the alarm is left on a phone or computer that falls asleep before 10:28 am. A browser alarm also cannot sound once its page has been closed, so keep the page open, leave the device awake and make sure the volume is audible. If the appointment matters enough to need a backup, add a separate alarm on your phone or clock rather than relying on one browser alert.
Before leaving for the surgery in the late morning, notice how warm the room has become and whether the air conditioning has made it feel cooler than outdoors. Choose clothes for the actual temperature outside, take some water if the day is hot, and allow a moment to adjust when stepping from a cool room into the heat. That small pause can make the walk to the bus stop, car or surgery entrance feel less abrupt.
Common questions
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 10:28 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
