How to use the online alarm clock
As you hand the milk collection over to someone else, set the alarm for 11:06 am so they know when to listen for the knock and accept the delivery at the door. That leaves the rest of the morning clearly divided from 12:00 pm, making the changeover easier to explain without relying on a vague “before noon”.
Because the person taking over may put their phone down while they wait, check that it will remain awake until the alert. Keep this alarm page open and the phone active, since the sound may not play otherwise and the milk delivery could be left waiting at the door. Set the volume high enough to hear from the hallway, then use a brief test alert if there is any doubt about the current sound setting.
Once the milk has been handed over, use the remaining morning as a buffer before the next commitment rather than filling every minute. At 11:06 am there are 54 minutes before 12:00 pm, enough for the person coming off duty to put things away, note that the delivery arrived, and prepare for whatever follows. Leaving a few minutes unallocated also helps if the van reaches the street later than expected.
Common questions
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
Does the alarm still work if I close the tab?
No. Everything runs inside this page, so closing the tab — or quitting the browser altogether — ends the countdown there and then. Leaving it open in the background is all it asks, and switching to another tab makes no difference.
What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 11:06 am?
The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.
