How to use the online alarm clock
You have just woken at 11:26 pm, and the curtains are still open as the last of the evening light fades outside. Setting the alarm now gives you a clear cue to close them before darkness settles around the room. The alert falls well before 12:00 am, leaving enough time to get up, draw every curtain and settle back down without letting the task drift past midnight.
For a curtain reminder, the signal needs to be noticeable without jolting the whole house. Set the volume high enough to rise above a television, fan or conversation, then play a brief test from where you are resting. Background noise can easily mask a quiet alert. If the live browser session ends or the phone falls asleep, the alarm for the curtains will not sound, so keep both active until you have closed them.
Closing curtains this late can suddenly make the room feel much darker than it did when you woke. Before resting again, leave a nearby lamp on or switch on the hall light so you can cross the room safely and see curtain cords, furniture and anything left on the floor. Once the curtains are drawn, reduce the light gradually rather than moving through an abruptly dark space.
Common questions
Do I need an account or an app?
Neither. Choose a time and a sound, press Start, and it runs in this browser tab. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is registered, and closing the page leaves nothing behind on the device.
Can I change the sound?
Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.
Will it still be right when the clocks change?
Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
Can I use this on a phone?
It works in a mobile browser, but phones lock the screen and suspend background tabs far more readily than a laptop does, which can stop the alarm sounding. For anything important, a desktop or a plugged-in laptop is the steadier option.
