How to use the online alarm clock

As you hand the early station run over to someone else, set the 6:00 am alarm so they know exactly when to leave. A commuter car park can fill quickly once the first wave of passengers arrives, so the handover should include the planned route, the entrance to use and where the keys are. That makes the alarm part of a clear changeover, not a vague reminder left for whoever is taking your place.

The person taking over can check the signal now, while you are still available to hear whether it is loud and distinct enough. A short test also reveals if the browser has been muted or the sound is going somewhere unexpected. This alarm cannot protect the station parking plan if its page is closed or the computer is allowed to sleep, because no signal will play; leave it running on an awake device until 6:00 am.

Whoever drives at this early hour may step from a cool house into a car that has held yesterday’s warmth. Setting the air conditioning before pulling away can make the first few minutes less distracting, but there is no need to sit with the engine running for long. Keep a light layer within reach as well: the car may cool sharply before the walk from the parking space to the platform.

What happens if my laptop goes to sleep before 6:00 am?

The tab sleeps along with it and the alarm will not sound on time, if at all. If you are relying on it, change the power settings so the machine stays awake, or keep a phone alarm running as well.

Do I need an account or an app?

Can I change the sound?

Yes, there is a short list of tones to pick from before you press Start. Softer sounds are easy to sleep through, so a firmer bell tends to be the safer choice for anything early in the morning.

Will it still be right when the clocks change?

Yes. It reads your device's local clock, so the move between GMT and BST at the end of March and October is picked up automatically, as long as the computer's date, time and time zone are set correctly.
