How to use the online alarm clock

Seven in the evening has kept the same appointment since 1951: The Archers goes out at seven on Radio 4, and a fair number of people still arrange the washing-up around it. Television drama and the soaps occupy roughly the same slot, and midweek football fixtures are kicking off shortly afterwards.

In households with small children this is the bedtime hour — bath, story, lights out — and the alarm exists to stop the sequence sliding later than it should. In households without them it tends to be the opposite: the point at which the evening becomes genuinely free.

Evening shifts in hospitality and retail hit their busiest stretch about now, and adult classes, choir practice and amateur rehearsals are getting under way in church halls across the country. Seven is also the conventional curtain-up for a village hall meeting or a parish council, which is why so many reminders at this hour are about being somewhere rather than doing something.

Whatever the reason for the alarm, each minute of the seven o'clock hour has its own page, running entirely on your own device with nothing to install first.
