2027 begins on a Friday, so New Year's Day creates a three-day weekend across the whole United Kingdom without anyone taking leave. Scotland's second holiday on 2 January falls on the Saturday and shifts to Monday 4 January, producing a four-day run there for the second year running. The online self-assessment deadline of 31 January lands on a Sunday, and the spring school term gets under way in the first full week of the month.

Easter is about as early as it can get. Good Friday falls on 26 March and Easter Monday on 29 March, and Easter Sunday itself, 28 March, is the morning the clocks go forward — an hour of sleep lost on the one Sunday of the year most likely to involve an early service. Mothering Sunday is on 7 March. The tax year then closes on Monday 5 April and the new one opens on Tuesday 6 April, with the holiday already behind it.

May carries its usual pair of Mondays, the 3rd and the 31st, the second of them the latest date the spring bank holiday can take. Scotland's summer holiday falls on 2 August and the late summer one elsewhere on 30 August. Northern Ireland's 12 July lands on a Monday and needs no substitute at all. The solstice on 21 June is a Monday, Father's Day the day before it, and schools in England and Wales break up in the third week of July as usual.

Autumn ends with the clocks going back on 31 October, so Halloween and the extra hour share a Sunday. Bonfire Night is a Friday, Armistice Day a Thursday, and Remembrance Sunday falls on 14 November. Christmas Day is a Saturday and Boxing Day a Sunday, which pushes both holidays into the following week — Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December — and turns the end of this 365-day year into a long shutdown for anyone whose workplace closes between the two.
