How to use the online alarm clock

An hour is the interval most things in a British day are measured against: parking sessions, appointments, hourly rates, lesson slots and hospital visiting windows. It is long enough to lose track of completely, which is precisely why an alarm earns its place.

It suits a slow-cooked dish needing its first proper check, a bread dough proving, a meeting that has a hard stop, or a period of concentrated work with a firm end. Parents use it for screen time and homework in equal measure, mostly because sixty minutes is a number children will accept as fair.

Choosing this preset sets the alarm one hour ahead of the current clock, crossing into the next hour automatically if you set it partway through one. There is no need to work out the finishing time yourself.

Common questions

Does the alarm handle crossing into the next hour?

Yes — it adds sixty minutes to the current time, so setting it at twenty past gives an alarm at twenty past the following hour.
