How to use the online alarm clock

Two hours covers the things a shorter alarm cannot: a feature film, a joint of meat with most of its cooking still to do, a long drive between service stations, or a stretch of work that needs genuine depth rather than a quick pass.

It is also the standard length of a great many British commitments — a driving lesson double, a matinee, a hospital appointment with waiting time factored in, or free parking at an out-of-town retail park. Setting an alarm rather than checking the clock leaves you free to stop thinking about it entirely.

The preset counts two full hours from the moment it is selected. It is the longest fixed interval offered here; for anything beyond it, the alarm can be set to a specific clock time instead.
