How to use the online alarm clock

Ten minutes is the standard warm-up interval — an oven reaching temperature, a car windscreen clearing on a frosty morning, or a shower running long enough for the water to settle. It is also roughly how long a pan of new potatoes needs once the water is boiling.

As a buffer it is more useful still. Ten minutes before leaving for the school run, ten minutes to finish a chapter, ten minutes on a phone charge before a journey. Long enough to get absorbed in something else, short enough that the deadline arrives before you have noticed the time passing.

The preset works out the finishing time from the moment you set it, so there is nothing to enter and nothing to calculate. If a task needs a little longer, the fifteen-minute option sits one step up.

Common questions

What is a ten-minute alarm most used for?

Short warm-ups and buffers — an oven reaching temperature, a windscreen clearing, or the last stretch before leaving the house.
